2018 Cesar Chavez Holiday Shutdown

Cesar Chavez Holiday Weekend

Every administrative holiday, the UC Davis campus participates in a shutdown to save energy and money. This Cesar Chavez Day is no exception.

The 50 buildings in the shutdown are mostly administrative and classroom buildings. Since the buildings are vacant on holidays and weekends, there is no need to heat, cool, or power those buildings. The Energy Conservation Office works with Facilities Management to shut off steam, chilled water, and electricity supplies in order to conserve energy.

The Results

2018 savings

This holiday we have the majority of our savings in electricity. We save $11,750 in electricity alone, which is about how much UC Davis spends to power the Activities and Recreation Center for a little over a month!
